Discounted Microsoft Products for Faculty, Staff and Students
From Online Vol. 7 No. 28 of the Southwest Scoop
Ever wondered how you could get the Microsoft products that you use for school or work on your computer at home? Well Southwest has the products you need to be able to upgrade your home computer so that you have all the capabilities you have at work.
Southwest is partnering with a company called e-academy to provide faculty, staff and students access to the latest products provided by Microsoft. The company is a global leader for software delivery solutions for educational institutions. According to their Web site, "At e-academy, we provide solutions that facilitate the distribution of software for educational institutions. Our team and technology will enable you to provide your students, faculty and staff with an exclusive, campus-branded software storefront so that they have easy access to software they need to excel in their programs."
Basically the program works like this....
- Visit the Web site: http://southwest.tn.onthehub.com.
- At the top of the page there are two tabs - one for faculty/staff and one for students, click on the appropriate tab.
- Register for a username and ID. You must use your Southwest email address for this registration.
- Once you have signed up, you will receive a confirmation e-mail to your college account. Follow the directions in the e-mail to register your account.
- Once you are registered, you will be able to sign in and see what is available. You will see a products screen. These products include Office 2007, One Note, Project 2007, SharePoint Designer 2007,Visio 2007and Vista 2007.
- Pick a product and you will be shown the reduced price for that product through this offer. For example, faculty and staff can obtain a copy of Microsoft Office Project for $14.95, instead of the $350 to $600 versions that are available at local retailers. The site is a secured site for making purchases.
Unlike other options available through the College in the past, there is no checking out of copies of programs then loading them on your computer and bringing them back. You will actually own the program.
